JOB SUMMARY

The Paralegal I will provide litigation, organization, research, and administrative support to PRP’s team of attorneys. This role will assist with coordinating the team’s legal work, supporting legal filings, and collaborating with other internal teams as needed. 

Because the role is fully remote, the ideal candidate will possess both the technical proficiency and strong communication skills needed to keep a remote team of lawyers organized. 

This position reports to the Litigation Team’s Assistant Director but will broadly assist other staff attorneys, and will work closely with the Paralegal II/Program Coordinator. 

We will begin reviewing applications on 6/20/2025 and will review applications received after that date on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

With training and support from the Paralegal II, Salesforce Team, and Assistant Litigation Director, the Paralegal I will provide litigation and administrative support to the Litigation Team and PRP staff attorneys by:

Litigation and Amicus Brief Support

  • Assembling, formatting, and submitting court and other governmental filings, including tables of authorities and exhibits, to support the team’s litigation and amicus portfolio.
  • Calendaring important litigation deadlines. 
  • Ensuring that important case filings are saved to each case file and that case files are orderly and up-to-date.
  • Conducting basic legal and factual research using tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Providing copywriting, copyediting, cite-checking, and formatting support as needed.
  • Supporting urgent or time sensitive litigation efforts, including occasional evening or weekend work (with as much advance notice as is possible).

Internal Team Coordination & Data Management

  • Assisting the Paralegal II with managing the internal infrastructure for a remote team of attorneys.
  • Maintaining PRP litigation files to ensure efficient and consistent document retention and storage.
  • Participating in and coordinating Zoom meetings, including circulating agendas, compiling supporting materials, and taking detailed notes as necessary.
  • Helping to organize Litigation Team projects and tasks, using our task management platform. 
  • Collaborating with PRP’s Operations Team to efficiently manage communications and contracts with external cohorts, e.g., clients, contractors, etc. 
  • Learning the basics of and eventually mastering PRP’s software and information management systems in order to update those systems for all litigation and to support the Paralegal II as needed. 
  • Supporting litigation-related contributions to grant proposals, reports, and external communication.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of paralegal or legal assistance experience preferred. 
  • Experience with or the ability and desire to learn new tech tools quickly. PRP staff use Office 365, Zoom, Slack, Salesforce, Asana, Campaign Monitor, Google Suite and program/document management software. Candidates need not have used all of these tools before, but must be willing and able to learn to use these tools upon joining PRP. 
  • Experience formatting, cite checking, and filing briefs and other litigation materials in federal or state court strongly preferred. 
  • Experience creating tables of contents and tables of authority for briefs in Microsoft Word strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Strong communication and research skills, including reviewing local court rules for filing requirements and drafting basic legal filings (e.g. pro hac vice applications and cover motions).
  • Experience with proactive project management and managing up/reporting to a number of stakeholders preferred. 
  • Ability and willingness to complete administrative tasks in support of team goals.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Litigation Team’s Assistant Director, and will work closely with other attorney staff as well as the Paralegal II. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires sitting, talking, and listening for up to 8 hours per day. Certain situations may require lifting items up to 20 pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Fully remote organization and team. This role may require travel a few times a year to PRP events, case hearings, or meetings. We currently have remote staff in Boston, Chicago, Kansas City (MO), Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, Seattle, and Washington, DC, as well as other cities.

COMPENSATION

The determined salary range for this role is set at $68,383-$92,518 (for internal equity, PRP will not engage in salary negotiations; salaries are presently set based on years of experience).
